Canada Greener Homes Loan Program

The Canada Greener Homes Loan helps Canadians make their homes more energy-efficient and comfortable. It offers interest-free (0%) financing in addition to the Canada Greener Homes Grant to help you complete some of the more major retrofits recommended by your energy advisor.

Maximum: $40,000
Minimum: $5,000
Repayment term: 10 years, interest-free
Loan type: Unsecured personal loan on approved credit.

In order to apply for the loan, you must first get a pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation.

CMHC MLI SELECT Program (Multi-Unit)

The MLI Select Program by CMHC is a federal initiative that supports housing development by offering mortgage insurance for multi-unit properties (5+ units), making it easier to access favorable financing in order to encourage apartment construction

Up to 95% LTV financing with as little as 5% down payment required

Extended amortization periods of up to 50 years

10 year mortgage terms for increased cash flow stability

Below prime interest rates

Reduced minimum debt coverage ratios & Decreased insurance premiums

Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP)

Supporting ALBERTA's municipalities

The Clean Energy Improvement Program (CEIP) is Alberta’s innovative financing tool that enables residential and commercial property owners to pay for energy efficiency and renewable energy upgrades. The program gives property owners access to flexible, long-term financing through their municipality. Unlike a traditional loan, repayment is facilitated by a tax added to the property’s tax bill. The Clean Energy Improvement Program is made possible by the Government of Alberta. Having passed bylaws, the following municipalities have launched a Clean Energy Improvement Program and 14 more municipalities joining soon.

Home Energy Labeling Program (Calgary)

The Home Energy Label Program - New Home Pilot is accepting applicants. Participating builders or owners can receive a $250 rebate per energy label up to a maximum of $7,500 per applicant during the program.

Starting September 13, 2023, the City is offering a voluntary pilot program that builders can opt into through the building permit application process and receive a $250 rebate for each EnerGuide label up to a maximum of $7,500 per applicant.

Starting in 2025, home builders may be required to disclose an EnerGuide Label for all new low-density homes built in Calgary, pending a bylaw being passed by Council.

CMHC ECO Plus Program

Energy-efficient homes can be linked to increased comfort and healthier living while improving energy efficiency reduces greenhouse gas emissions and lowers the cost of owning and maintaining your home. CMHC Green Home offers a premium refund of up to 25% to borrowers who either buy, build or renovate for energy efficiency using CMHC-insured financing.

Energy Efficiency Alberta (EEA)

The long-awaited Alberta energy efficiency rebates program for home renovations is finally here. Environment Minister Shannon Phillips announced that the program will devote $24-million in rebates to homeowners looking to make their homes more efficient. The rebates are created because of revenue generated by Alberta government’s carbon tax.
